Cultivating a Professional Presence

How can I present myself in a positive and professional manner at work?

Kemmons Wilson, founder of Holiday Inn Hotels, suggested that we plant a garden in our workplace. This garden should consist of:

1.  Four rows of peas:  Politeness, Promptness, Preparedness and Perseverance

2.  Three rows of squash:  Squash Gossip, Criticism and Indifference

3.  Three rows of lettuce:  Let us be Loyal, Unselfish and Truthful

4.  Two rows of turnips:  Turn up with a New Idea to make your workplace better and Turn Up with Determination to do a better job today than you did yesterday

This advice is applicable no matter your job.  Whether you are a business executive, teacher or retail clerk, planting your garden will allow you to showcase the best version of yourself and make your workplace a more positive, enjoyable and productive environment.
