This is a true story that began as a lesson on safety skills in the home.  The home of 2 students burned to the ground and while everyone got out safely, the focus of the lesson was on the fact that the parents never discussed an exit strategy with their children whose bedrooms were on the second floor.

Two weeks after the safety skills class, an 8-year-old boy stayed home from school because of a cold.  That morning, due to a sudden accident, David became a hero.
